{"id":2904,"date":"2021-02-23T08:47:32","date_gmt":"2021-02-23T07:47:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.terrediger.it\/?p=2904"},"modified":"2021-02-23T08:49:31","modified_gmt":"2021-02-23T07:49:31","slug":"from-good-care-for-the-vineyards-a-good-wine-is-born-grapevine-pruning-at-terre-di-gers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.terrediger.it\/en\/2021\/02\/23\/from-good-care-for-the-vineyards-a-good-wine-is-born-grapevine-pruning-at-terre-di-gers\/","title":{"rendered":"From good care for the vineyards a good wine is born: grapevine pruning at Terre di Ger&#8217;s"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Grapevine pruning is the most &#8216;engaging&#8217; phase in the grapevine&#8217;s life cycle, when both past experience and creativity are combined together.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The selection of vine shoots and spurs for the coming year, the training system, the amount of production and the expected grape quality&#8230;. this is the time of the year when the most important decisions must be taken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"623\" height=\"415\" src=\"https:\/\/www.terrediger.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/potatura_2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2898\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.terrediger.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/potatura_2.jpg 623w, https:\/\/www.terrediger.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/potatura_2-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 623px) 100vw, 623px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>These are cold and short days, but very busy days indeed.&nbsp;<em>Life&nbsp;<\/em>is starting again from here, after a few months of rest during which the vineyard has restored itself. This process is known as &#8220;agostamento&#8221;, a perpetual and constant becoming: spurs lignify and become shoots, shoots will give birth to new buds which in turn will become fruitful sprouts&nbsp;and so on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Grapevine-pruning ends right before the so called<em>&nbsp;weeping of the vine<\/em>. It is as if grapevines are urging time now. That is why pruning represents&nbsp;the most important and evocative time of the year.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each grapevine variety and each wineyard have their own distinctive traits. In our farm, the most used training system is&nbsp;Guyot (the double Guyot, typical in the Friuli area). The most vigorous grapevines are trained after the Sylvoz system, the classical permanent cordon with renewed arches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\"
